John Blakemore writes of this picture:
"This image of a collection of pebbles was made late on a winter's day in low sun. The retreating tide had left the small pebbles precariously balanced, making points of significance in the mass of the beach. I was enjoying the sound and surge of the retreating tide, and made the image to celebrate the gleam of the pebbles, with the rhythmic placement of the larger stones revealed by the dying light... This was a high-contrast subject, and the negative received full exposure and reduced development. This is almost a straight print, but the top left corner needs some burning in to balance the print tonally."
