Less than two years after his arrival in England Brandt's first book was published, entitled The English at Home (1936). The book would serve as Brandt's calling card in seeking assignments.

The present photograph was illustrated full page in The English at Home, where it is titled "Nursery Girlhood" and "Nursery a Mayfair".

Additionally, the Victoria and Albert museum has two family photo albums in its possession that were complied by Brandt's first wife Eva. The present photograph is contained in a page bearing six picture. This and two of the others reappear in English at Home. This suggests that as with so many of Brandt's early works there was a direct family connection to the subjects shown. Indeed many of his early photographs of the wealthy in fact showed his own extended family's properties and staff.
